We are delighted to announce that Forest Row Energy has been awarded a grant through the National Lottery Community Fund to develop a community-led, not-for-profit insulation service. Our plan is to create a local, practical solution to the huge shortfall in the most basic measure to cut energy use in our homes – insulation!
Adequate insulation can reduce household heating needs and costs by up to 70%. As energy costs and the climate crisis escalate it is now more important than ever to make sure that your household insulation is as good as it can be, and with the support of our grant we can help make that happen.
Esmé Donghi, Forest Row Energy’s Executive Director said ‘Through our work in the local community, we have been surprised at how many homes are wasting energy through the lack of basic insulation measures that are very cost effective to install. There is also a shortage of local installers and we have found people being charged overinflated costs by untrustworthy installers.
The vision for our project us to make sure that no home is wasting energy and money through the lack of quick win insulation measures, especially at a time when the cost of living is so high. We also want to do all we can to make sure that nobody pays more that they should.”
As part of the project, we will provide free Energy Performance Certificates, home insulation assessments and advice to provide low cost, quick win insulation measures, initially for 30 homes. We will also review suppliers in the local area and look at the feasibility of carry out measures ourselves on a not for profit basis. The project will be managed by our very own Domestic Energy and Retrofit Assessor, Frank.
We will be carrying out the home insulation assessments in Winter 2022. All homes within 15 miles of Forest Row are eligible. Please let us know if you would like to benefit from this service. Priority will be given to members of Forest Row Energy Co-op. If you are yet to become a member, please do join us. The membership income helps to pay our annual running costs such as insurance, accountancy, and website hosting.
